There is no correct answer to this question. But if your purpose is to see sea stars, we would suggest you visit Vaadhoo Island from June to February. Most visitors are lucky enough to see this incredible natural phenomenon between July to February.

Especially on dark nights these sea stars are more visible. So, it is better to select 6 days after the full moon.  When you plan your trip to Vaadhoo, keep these things in your mind.

 

04.What causes these sea stars

This natural phenomenon is created by Bioluminescence. Bioluminescence is the ability of certain living things to create light. Fireflies, Railroad worms, and Deep-Sea shrimp are examples of Bioluminescence.  These creatures use Bioluminescence as a survival tactic.

In Vaadhoo Maldives, Bioluminescence is created by microscopic plankton called dinoflagellates. So, predators can be confused by the lights.

 

 

05.Is it harmful?

 

Some creatures, that create bioluminescence like algae can be harmful to humans. But Bioluminescence in Vaadhoo is no harm to human life. So, don’t worry to get into the water.
